Hearing Aid -- Do We Really Need It?

We get impatient and irritated when we encounter someone who has difficulty in hearing. We have to keep repeating ourselves several times before the person can actually understand what we need and what we mean. There are times that you have to shout at the top of your voice before that person will get it. It is very annoying and frustrating. And there are also times that that person will hear differently than what you are saying. Imagine living with someone like that. But what if you can find something that can help both of you or something that can make your live easier? This is when the hearing aid comes into your rescue.

A hearing aid is a device that can fit in or behind a wearer’s ear. It is an electroacoustic device that is designed to modulate and amplify sounds for the wearer. The earlier devices were called ear trumpet or ear horn because of their shape. They were shaped like a funnel and they gather sound and direct it into the ear canal.

There are different kinds of hearing aids and they have different kinds of purpose too. However, some are designed to make the wearer be comfortable with the device in his or her ear. For those who have hearing losses, it is a good idea to go to your otolaryncologist, who will mostly have an assistant wearing Cherokee scrubs, to be sure what kind of hearing aid is best suited for you. That way, you can specify what you want and something that is comfortable for you.
But to give you a general idea of the hearing aids in the market, here are the most common of them.

Body worn aids are one of the first type of hearing aid and is no longer in use as of today. It has a case, which is the size of a pack of playing cards, and and earmold that is connected to it by a cord. It has vacuum tubes that provide loud amplification. The modern version of this is the Behind-The-Ear or BTE aids.

Behind-The-Ear or BTE aids are smaller version of body worn aids but just as effective or even better. The earmold fits each person comfortably as it is created from an impression of the person’s outer ear. The earmolds also come in either hard or soft varieties, depending on the patient’s preference. The case can be decorated accordingly to keep up with the trend. This is used for people with mild to moderate high frequency losses.

In the ear aids or ITE are devices that fit the outer ear bowl and are sometimes visible when the person is standing in front of you. These hearing aids are custom fit and can be used in mild to severe hearing losses.

So go visit your Otolaryngologist and be greeted by his or her assistant wearing Landau 8327 to have your ears checked and if you need to have a hearing aid. It is better to get one than suffer from not being able to hear properly at all.
